The Toston Ranch totals over 2800 +/- acres and sits along 2.5 miles of the Missouri river just west of Toston Mt.
Townsend, Mt which is approximately 10 miles north offers full services. The Capitol city of Helena is just a ½ hours drive offering big box stores and commercial flights for the absentee owner. The property configuration is non contiguous but is easily accessible by 4 wheeler from the headquarters. This property enjoys adequate water lending itself to being one of the most productive offerings in Western Montana. The FE ranch would make a great stand-alone operation or addition to a larger outfit. The current owner is utilizing it as a year around cow/calf operation in addition to selling pasture to other producers. The FE Ranch is a classic offering that is a unique blend of both agriculture and production. Central proximity to Western Montana’s ranching country makes this ranch a viable option for operations in a variety of locales.
Consideration to Livestock
Currently the owner is running 150 cow calf pairs and is leasing out grass to area ranchers keeping the numbers well below maximum capacity. If an operator was to maximize the cow herd and not sell grass the current owner estimates that nearly 300 pairs could be ran as a stand alone operation. Currently all sprinkler irrigation is in grass while some is hayed and some is used for grazing.
The pivots consist of 2 older valley pivots that are still very operational. The north pivot is powered by a 75 HP pump with a collection directly from the Missouri River. The west Pivot is pumped a short distance from the xxxx ditch via a xx HP Pump. The remainder of sprinkler irrigation is under wheel lines. The west portion of native range is conveniently watered by 2 pipeline systems from private wells. The topography of this portion of the ranch creates an excellent opportunity to get cattle of the meadows in the spring. The current owner has done an excellent job with fences and rotational grazing with electric fence.

Wildlife & Recreation
The ranch is located in Montana Hunting District 380 which is a special draw area for 120 permits and harbors some of the best bull elk in the state. In addition tags for antlerless elk are more readily available. Both whitetail and mule deer can be hunted on a general tag. This ranch would qualify a new owner for landowner preference opportunities. The ranch is home to ample populations of whitetail deer, Hungarian partridge, ring-neck pheasant and migratory waterfowl of all kinds. Elk occasionally raid the west pivot but proximity to thousands of acres of public lands make the opportunity for this species endless.
This particular section of the Missouri is home to Trout in colder water seasons and are replaced by Carp, and the occasional Pike and Walleye as temperatures rise. Canyon Ferry Dam is a short drive away providing some of the best Walleye in the state. Endless blue Ribbon Trout fisheries can be found within an hours drive.
Annual property taxes are estimated to be $6,602.91
Perhaps one of the most productive offerings in Western Montana. The Toston Ranch would lend itself to a stand alone family operation or supplement to a larger outfit. Great combination of production and agriculture in a great location.
